Lyons, SD - September 15, 2011 - Rosenbauer, the world's largest fire apparatus manufacturer, recently signed a contract with Brazil's state-owned airport operator Infraero Aeroportos to supply 80 PANTHER ARFF 6x6 crash trucks, worth $42.9 m.
Brazil currently ranks as the 7th largest economy in the world, ahead of Canada, India and Russia. With a population of 200 million, land mass the size of the United States and an abundance of natural resources, Brazil is one of the fastest growing countries in the world. By undertaking this fleet renewal program, Infraero Aeroportos is bringing fire protection standards at Brazil's airports right up to date - all the more important in view of the approaching 2014 Football World Cup and 2016 Summer Olympics.
Infraero Aeroportos employees over 13,000 people and oversees and operates all of the 66 major airports within Brazil, including Antônio Carlos Jobim Airport in Rio de Janeiro and Guarulhos Airport in São Paulo, which will also benefit from new equipment as part of this program. This will ensure compliance with the - increasingly closely monitored - international airport certification regulations of the ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization).
Beginning nearly four years ago, Infraero began developing specifications and interviewing manufacturers of ARFF vehicles through-out the world. A major consideration for Infraero was that the manufacturer has a proven, state-of-the-art product and the ability to support the vehicles that will be situated through-out the country. Six bidders submitted proposals, and Rosenbauer, along with their local representative Labor Solucoes em Engenharia, were chosen as the preferred supplier.
The PANTHERs are to be manufactured at the Rosenbauer Minnesota and Rosenbauer Motors divisions in Wyoming, MN, with the firefighting systems being supplied from the main plant in Leonding, Austria. The vehicles are to be supplied and commissioned in several stages by January 2014. A prototype is to be handed over to the client before the end of this year.
The PANTHERs will be equipped with powerful 665 HP Detroit Diesel engines. They have a top speed of 75 MPH and an extinguishant payload of 3400 gallons.
This success testifies yet again to the leading position occupied by the Rosenbauer Group, which won this international bid thanks to the high standards of engineering and quality insisted upon by Rosenbauer Minnesota. This new order marks an important building block on the way towards securing a good level of basic capacity utilization over the next two years.
Rosenbauer is the world's leading manufacturer of firefighting vehicles and equipment. In North America, Rosenbauer incorporates the international strength and innovation of a global company with top American manufacturing firms.
