Wyoming, MN - (July 14, 2008) - Rosenbauer has delivered a 20' walk-around, heavy-duty rescue truck to the Village of Maybrook Fire Department in Orange County, NY.
Three years in the making from the initial committee meeting to delivery, the truck is equipped with two Command Light CL-615 light towers, an Onan 20kW hydraulic generator, the Rosenbauer Ultra High-Pressure foam system with a 150-gallon UPF water tank, two Girard electric self-supporting awnings, upper-body coffin compartments, Rosenbauer's folding drop-down steps built beneath each side compartment door, Amkus' PTO hydraulic system, a four bank 6000 PSI air cascade system and custom tool mounting both in the body and front bumper.
The department, whose 56 active members responded to 538 calls in 2007 - almost 200 of which were accidents -, serves a small village off Interstate 84 about 90-minutes north of New York City.
The department covers a 12 mile stretch of the interstate between the New York Thruway and Middletown, NY, which Chief Charlie Woznick says keeps them very busy. "There is so much commercial traffic that goes through here," Woznick said recently. "I-84 is the main route for trucks between New England and Pennsylvania. We also have traffic that comes up from New York City on the Thruway to both Albany and Binghamton and beyond on Route 17."
The village also sits directly beneath the final approach to Runway 9 at Stewart International Airport. Over the years, the fire department has responded to several aircraft crashes in and around the village.
With a diverse response profile simply due to the dynamics of ground and air traffic through Maybrook, the fire department's committee explored a number of options when designing this vehicle.
"We started out with really looking at one manufacturer," Woznick said, "and then we started to learn about the Rosenbauer General product, its construction and the strength that they put into making sure the truck is durable. Once we got into the body layout part of the project and found out all that they could do to meet our needs, the decision was easy."
Now that the truck has been placed into service, Woznick said neither he nor his members could be any happier with the decision to have Rosenbauer build this vehicle. "I cannot begin to express enough how pleased we are with this truck and how Rosenbauer took care to make sure we got the truck we wanted."
The vehicle, sold by long-time Rosenbauer dealer Wilde Fire for $605,000, was displayed at this year's New York Fire Chiefs show at Lake George.
